The Story

This handcrafted necklace celebrates Vincent van Gogh's (1853–1890) Irises, one of the Getty's most exceptional paintings. Soft patinas on bronze and detailed glass petals are connected to shimmering strands of faceted lapis, making this a truly unique statement piece.

- Dimensions: 16 1/4 L with 2 inch extender
- Materials: Lapis, glass, bronze, lobster clasp closure
- Made in the USA by artist Michael Michaud
- Item #: 9507BZ

In 1889, while staying in Saint-Rémy, France, Vincent van Gogh created nearly 130 paintings. Within his first week there, he began Irises, inspired by the natural surroundings of the asylum’s garden where he was recovering from episodes of self-harm and hospitalization. The cropped composition is divided into broad areas of vivid color, with monumental irises overflowing its borders.

Each iris is distinct. Van Gogh carefully observed their movements and forms, capturing a variety of curved silhouettes defined by wavy, twisting, and curling lines
