The Story

This exquisite hand-painted glass ornament features a detail from one of the J. Paul Getty Museum's most popular paintings, Vincent van Gogh's Irises

- Hand-painted glass
- 3" diameter
- Attractively boxed
- Item #: ORNIRS

In 1889, while staying in Saint-Rémy, France, Vincent van Gogh created nearly 130 paintings. Within his first week there, he began Irises, inspired by the natural surroundings of the asylum’s garden where he was recovering from episodes of self-harm and hospitalization. The cropped composition is divided into broad areas of vivid color, with monumental irises overflowing its borders.

Each iris is distinct. Van Gogh carefully observed their movements and forms, capturing a variety of curved silhouettes defined by wavy, twisting, and curling lines
